A car ran off West Catawba Avenue during rush hour Monday morning, backing up traffic on the road, just west of Jetton Raod. Gary Knox sent this photo around 8:40am after the car ran onto the shoulder. It was a minor accident, but the narrow roadway gave no room for traffic to go around, bringing cars to a standstill.
At Monday night’s Town Board meeting, commissioners will discuss whether to offer bond money or other town funds to help pay for the NC DOT’s West Catawba Phase II widening project. The project had been on the NC DOT’s regional priority list for funding, but changes to the state road project ranking system have created uncertainty.
The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization has asked towns to say whether they might contribute local funding to projects, in advance of the CRTPO’s Jan. 15 meeting. See a preview of Monday’s board meeting here.
