Boat engine, police gear stolen; home invader causes $15K in water damage

police blotterAn unknown suspect broke into a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police detective’s car at his Danesway Lane residence last week, stealing a police gear bag containing $1,899 worth of items, including a Smith & Wesson handgun. Police also investigated the theft of a $1,400 outboard boat motor from Carrington Drive and the theft of $375 worth of jewelry and silver cutlery from a Catawba Avenue home. Meanwhile, an unknown suspect broke into four houses under construction at 21000 block Chapel Way, leaving the faucets running and causing an estimated $15,000 in water damage.

Below is a summary of Cornelius Police Department incident reports from June 17-25

TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 9:51am, 10800 block Danesway Lane –An unknown suspect broke into a CMPD detective’s vehicle as it was parked in his driveway, taking a LA police gear bag containing a knife, Smith and Wesson handgun, phone, and other items totaling $1,8900 in value.

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 7:29pm, 21100 block of Catawba Avenue – Police stopped a 2003 Honda Civic, and found the driver to be in possession of marijuana and Xanax. The suspect was arrested on the scene and charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver schedule VI substances, as well a felony charge for maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance.

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 3:19pm, 20800 Block Catawba Avenue – the victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) stole eight landscaping lights from the entrance to the Victoria Bay subdivision. The total estimated value in damage and stolen items is $1,000.

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 7:22pm, 19400 block Carrington Club Drive – The victim stated that between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon, someone took a Mercury 2 Stroke 6 Horsepower Outboard boat motor from his 1997 15-foot Gheen boat. At the time the boat was parked on a trailer in the parking lot.

SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 11:17pm, Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St. – An unknown suspect(s) stole a black clutch purse containing the victim`s credit card, car and house keys, and iPhone The total estimated value of items stolen is $654.

TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 8:45am, 21700 block Chapel Way, Antiquity Cornelius – Between 6:30pm, June 23and 6:30am June 24, an unknown suspect(s) pried open the garage entry doors on four houses under construction at Chapel Way, causing $500 in damage to each of the garage entry doors and door jambs. The suspect then entered the houses and, failing to find anything to steal, left the faucets running, causing $5,000.00 in water damage to three of the houses, adding up to $17,000 in damage total.

TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 12:53pm, Potts Street – a tractor trailer driving down Potts Street snagged a low-hanging wire, snapping the wire’s pole. A representative from ElectriCities arrived on scene and advised that the pole and wire belonged to AT&T.

TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 4:07pm, 10100 block Squire’s Way – Between June 12 around 5:30am and June 21 at around 5:30pm an unknown suspect(s) stole a sterling silver teapot, sugar pot, and creamer pot. They also stole a 10 karat gold band, and a gold ring with a round cut diamond solitare. The total estimated value of the stolen items was $375.00.
