Police chase and arrest 2 suspects after bank robbery

Police arrested two Charlotte men as suspects in the robbery of the Bank of America branch on West Catawba Avenue Tuesday morning after a car chase into Huntersville.

Tamir Dion Simmons, 30, and Donovan Roy Walters, 20,  were charged with Common Law Robbery, Conspiracy, and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods. On Tuesday night, both were being held in Mecklenburg County Jail in Charlotte, with bail set at $105,000 each. They’re due in court on Thursday, Jan. 2. (See police announcement below.)

Police were called to the bank at 9:51am after two suspects entered the branch, leaped the counter and grabbed an undisclosed amount of money.  A police spokeswoman said the men were not armed.

The men fled in a Silver Camaro convertible with a black top. Witnesses called the police with a description of the vehicle driving erratically. Police located the car a short time later and gave chase.

Police caught the men near Long Creek Elementary School, on Beatties Ford Road, in Huntersville, around 10:07am, the spokeswoman said.

The suspects did not have weapons, police said.

Cornelius Police Arrest Suspects in Bank Robbery

On Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at approximately 9:51am, Cornelius Police were dispatched to the Bank of America at 20005 West Catawba Avenue in reference to a robbery in progress. Two black males jumped the counter inside the bank and stole money. They left the scene in a Silver Camaro Convertible with a black top. Witnesses called the police with a description of the vehicle driving erratically. Officers pursued the vehicle towards Huntersville. With the help of the Huntersville and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments, the suspects were apprehended near Long Creek Elementary School after they ran from the vehicle.

Cornelius Police have arrested Tamir Dion Simmons (10/26/84) and Donovan Roy Walters (02/09/1994) of Charlotte and charged them each with one count of Common Law Robbery, one count of Conspiracy, and one count of Felony Possession of Stolen Goods.
