A customer at the Torrence Chapel Road McDonalds was arrested after attempting to pay for a meal with a counterfeit $50 bill. Meanwhile, police investigated the theft of a morphine delivery intended for a Smith Circle resident, and arrested a driver on a charge of DWI on Catawba Avenue. Read on for details.

2 CAR-HOUSE COLLISIONS

DENVER – Two cars veered off the road and collided with houses over the weekend, on Jan. 4 and 5. On Saturday, Jan. 4, 2015, at 1:18am, Denver Fire Department was dispatched along with EMS and law enforcement agencies to the intersection of North Highway 16 and Mundy Road for a report of a car colliding with a house.

Denver’s heavy rescue unit arrived on the scene to find a vehicle crashed into an occupied home. There were two victims inside of the vehicle, which had sustained heavy damage, and they were transported to the hospital by EMS. There were two occupants in the home at the time of impact and they did not report any injuries. Because of the damage, a building inspector was called to inspect the home as a safety precaution.

The second collision came Monday morning, Jan. 5, in the 6400 block of King Wilkinson Road. A driver veered off the road, spun and slid into the front of a home. Two people were in the car and five people were in the the residence at the time. There were no injuries to anyone inside of the home and EMS assessed the occupants of the vehicle for minor non life-threatening injuries. The home was evacuated and the power was shut off temporarily as a precaution.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 31, 11:49pm, West Catawba Avenue near Harbor View Drive – A car was pulled over for speeding, and upon approaching the vehicle the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the driver`s breath. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol, performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and was charged with driving while impaired.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 31, 3:47pm, McDonalds, 20500 Torrence Chapel Road – A 27-year-old Charlotte man attempted to spend a counterfeit $50 bill at the McDonald’s at 20500 Torrence Chapel Rd. As they investigated, police found three more $20 counterfeit bills in the center console of his car. He was charged with possessing and transporting counterfeit instruments. The man was released from Mecklenburg County Jail on $5,000 bond.

FRIDAY, JAN. 2, 1:36am, 19200 block Dutch Iris Lane – A suspicious vehicle was reported, and upon investigation an officer located mail that had been stolen from mailboxes at Magnolia Estates Dr., Cherry Blossom Ln. and empty envelopes lying in the roadway throughout the Magnolia Estates Neighborhood.

MONDAY, JAN. 5, 8:15pm, Lake Norman Lawn Systems, 10616 Bailey Road – Between Dec. 31 at 3pm and Jan. 5 at 8:15am, an unknown suspect took three car batteries from three different work vehicles which were parked in the business parking lot of Lake Norman Lawn Systems. Total value of items taken is approximately $390.

MONDAY, JAN. 5, 9:48am, 19400 block Smith Circle – The victim stated that between Dec. 22-28, an unknown suspect stole prescription morphine that was supposed to be delivered to his residence.
