CONCORD – A 15-year-old high school student was fatally shot Sunday night while riding in a car near downtown Concord. The boy died after he was taken to a local hospital. Concord police are investigating the shooting, in which someone from another vehicle apparently shot into the car where the victim was riding.
Mark Gevon Bostic Jr., 15, of Robbins Street in Concord, was pronounced dead at Northeast Medical Center. He was a sophomore at J.M. Robinson High School in Concord.
Concord Police were called to Northeast Medical Center shortly before 10 pm Sunday, where doctors were treating a gunshot victim. They found the boy, who had been brought to the hospital in a private car.
Police said a preliminary investigation found Bostic had been shot while riding in a vehicle in the area of Corban Avenue SW and Crowell Drive SW, a few blocks from downtown.
Police said they have learned that two vehicles were involved in the incident, gunshots fired from one car to the other. One round struck Bostic and proved to be fatal. The incident began about a mile away from the shooting scene, when occupants of the vehicles became involved in a disagreement, police said.
The vehicle in which the shooter was riding followed the victim’s car to the intersection where the shooting happened. Police say they’ve located the second vehicle.
Police said they’re still investigating and would not release any additional information Monday afternoon.
