Nobody was seriously hurt in a rollover wreck on Bailey Road last Friday, or in a second crash that happened when another driver swerved to avoid the airborne car. Meanwhile, a 70-year-old driver struck a deer on Jetton Road Saturday night. And someone broke into a car in the parking lot at Alton’s Kitchen Saturday night, making off with nearly $2,600 in computers and other items. In Charlotte, police arrested several suspects in car break-ins at Northlake Mall. Read on for the details.
POLICE REPORTS, MARCH 5-10
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 11:28pm, 19600 block of Feriba Place – A 47-year-old resident told police that between 7:40 and 11:25pm, someone he knew broke into his bedroom, which was secured by a deadbolt, and threatened him. A 19-year-old student is listed as a suspect.
FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 11:07am, 16300 block of Belle Isle Drive – A couple told police that between Dec. 13, 2013, and March 7, 2014, a known suspect stole items from their home. They included a teak patio table and 8 chairs valued at $2,500, a Pottery Barn double chaise lounge valued at $1,300, a Pottery Barn single chaise lounge valued at $625, and a wooden shed with miscellaneous tools valued at $300. The total estimated value of the items taken is $4725. Police are investigating.
FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 12:51pm, Bailey Road, between Poole Place and Northline Drive – A 41-year-old Charlotte woman was headed north east on Bailey Road when she lost control of her 2002 Toyota because of water on the road. She overcorrected and veered off the road, striking a telephone pole and driving into a ditch. That cause the vehicle to flip and land on its right side. The woman was not injured, but the car had to be towed. The first wreck indirectly caused a second wreck. (See next item.)
FRIDAY, MARCH 7,, 12:53pm, Bailey Road between Poole Place and Northline Drive – A 28-year-old Mooresville man was driving on Bailey Road when he saw the Toyota run off the road and roll over. The Mooresville man wasn’t sure were the car was going to land, so he swerved off the road, and into a tree. He was not seriously injured.
FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 10:37pm, Suds and Shine, 18341 Old Statesville Road/NC 115 – Officers responded to assist a motorist across from Suds-N-Shine. On investigation, police found two underage suspects who had been drinking. A search of their vehicle found marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
A 17-year-old Charlotte boy and a 16-year-old Concord boy were charged by citation with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and underage consumption.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 7:49am, Hampton Inn, 19501 Statesville Road – A South Carolina man told police that between Friday at 10:30pm and Saturday at 7:40am someone broke the passenger window and damaged both the driver`s door and passenger door of his 2014 GMC truck. Damage totaled $1,200. Nothing was reported missing.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 10:25pm, Jetton Road between Meta Road and Stableford Lane – A 70-year-old Cornelius driver was traveling west on Jetton Road when a deer darted out in front of his 2005 Lexus. The car struck the deer, and it bounced off and landed on the side of the road. the deer until he hit it and it bounced off his vehicle. It died at the scene. The man’s car had about $975 damage.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 9:31pm, Alton’s Kitchen, 19918 North Cove Road – A man told police that between 6:30 and 9:30pm, someone broke into 2012 Toyota 4Runner by punching out the right rear passenger window, valued at $300. Missing are a black computer bag valued at $150; a Sig Sauer handgun, valued at $900; 2 gun holsters, valued at $40 each; Skull Candy ear buds valued at $40; a laptop computer, valued at $1,000; a a mobile phone charger, valued at $15; and a Zoom H4 Handy digital recorder valued at $400. The total value of stolen property was $2,585. Police are investigating.
SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 2:23am, 18500 block of Victoria Bay Drive – A resident told police that between 9pm and midnight Saturday someone threw a rock through her living room window. The total estimated damage is $500.
SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 10:55pm, Police Headquaters – A 50-year-old Denver man came to police headquarters to report that he was assaulted by someone he didn’t know on Saturday, March 8, at On the Roxx, 19712 One Norman Blvd. at 1:30am. The man said he was thrown off a patio stairway. He received bruises, scrapes, and abrasions to the left side of his head and face, left hand, and left knee. The victim also reported possible torn ligaments in his left leg.
MONDAY, MARCH 10, 12:49pm – A woman called police to report her wallet had been stolen, between Saturday at 10:30pm and Sunday at 8am, while she was at the Rusty Rudder, 20210 Henderson Road. The wallet was valued at $100, and contained $15 in cash, debit and credit cards.
SUSPECTS CHARGE IN MALL CAR BREAK-INS
Charlotte Meccklenburg Police on Monday arrested three men suspected in a series of car break-ins at Northlake Mall, in north Charlotte. The men, ages 21, 18 and 19, face various charges related to one break-in that happened Monday.
CMPD said officers were called to the mall to check on a break-in in the mall parking lot. Police were able to identify the suspects, and determined that they still in the mall. The men were arrested without incident and police seized a handgun that one of the men was carrying.
After interviews, the men were charged with various crimes related to the break-in. Police said the men are suspected in other break-ins and said more charges are likely.
