Icy roads in the Lake Norman area led to a slew of wrecks Friday morning. No serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents, which came during the morning rush hour with temperatures around 30 degrees.
Here’s a quick summary:
CORNELIUS
Just before 8am – A one-car wreck was reported on Westmoreland Road, near the Westmoreland Athletic Complex. Police said the driver skidded off the road because of ice. No injuries were reported.
8:45am – Cornelius and Huntersville emergency units responded to a four-vehicle wreck on I-77 northbound just before the Catawba Avenue overpass. One woman was taken by ambulance to Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the incident during the morning commute was not directly related to the weather.
DAVIDSON
7:30am – Police and firefighters were called to NC 115 at Little Ranch Road, just north of the Iredell County line, where a northbound Ford F150 pick up had hit a patch of ice and skidded off the right side of the road, rolled over and struck a telephone pole. Emergency workers on the scene said nobody was seriously hurt.
7:50am – As Davidson firefighters and police were clearing from the NC 115 wreck, they got a second call for an accident in the 21900 block Shearers Road, east of town. Firefighters arrived on the scene and reported that one vehicle had overturned on its roof. Davidson police said a MI-Connection Communications System driver was headed north on the road in his van when he hit ice and skidded. The van ran off the right side of the road, and flipped onto its roof. The driver was taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
