A driver accidentally accelerated while attempting to park at Carolina Cones on North Main Street last Thursday, jumping the curb just feet from the ice cream shop’s benches and colliding with a stone fountain. No one was injured. Meanwhile, police investigated the theft of $1,777 in stereo equipment from a vehicle parked on Kenton Drive. Unknown suspects also vandalized a Meta Road property. THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 3:59pm, Carolina Cones, 20801 N. Main St – A driver was attempting to turn from Pecan Street into the Carolina Cones parking lot when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. The car jumped the curb, drove over a shrub, side-swiped a tree and light fixture, and finally collided with a stone fountain before coming to rest, but no one was injured.
THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 6:46pm, East Catawba Avenue – Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been recorded as stolen when they spotted it of East Catawba Avenue. The defendant refused to stop and led police on a chase to Huntersville and back, until his car was finally brought to a halt by spike strips laid in front of the Cornelius Police Department (read our coverage: April 10, “Car chase ends in front of Town Hall”). The defendant was transported to Huntersville Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of breathing issues, and warrants were obtained for possession of a stolen vehicle, felony speeding to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, and possession of crack cocaine.
SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 7:33am, 19100 block Meta Road – The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) vandalized his property during the night by defecating on the rear patio, placing stickers on various sculptures and windows, dismantling a bird bath, and placing stolen markers from a nearby golf course in the yard.
SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 8:21am, Cornelius BP, 18405 Statesville Rd – An unknown suspect stole an 18-pack of Budweiser beer. The total estimated value of what was stolen is $14.49.
SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 1:45pm, 17000 block Kenton Dr. – Sometime during the night of Sunday, April 5, an unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s 1996 Ford Explorer and removed the faceplate of his JVC stereo, valued at $100, as well as a Monitech sample head valued at $1,677.
SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 2:30pm, Taco Bell, 20329 West Catawba Ave. – An unknown suspect purchased a meal at Taco Bell using a counterfeit $100 bill.
MONDAY, APRIL 13, 6:14pm, 11100 block Heritage Green Dr. – An unknown suspect(s) stole the victim’s lockbox, containing 82 doses of Percocet, from her residence.
TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 3:01pm, Old Statesville Road northbound near Bailey Road – Three vehicles were stopped at the light on Bailey Road when a fourth, traveling 45 mph, failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of the last vehicle in line, causing a chain reaction involving three other cars. All three other drivers were transported to CMC Huntersville with possible injuries, but the driver who caused the accident was unhurt. He claimed he had hydroplaned, but there was no standing water on the road. He was charged with failure to reduce speed. TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 4:15pm, Liverpool Parkway at Norman Crossing shopping center – The right lane of traffic was backed up on Liverpool Parkway, and a driver exiting the Norman Crossing shopping center attempted to make a left turn across both lanes. She pulled in front of a driver travelling in the left lane, who struck the side of her vehicle. Both vehicles were towed, but no one was injured.
